[DAILY TRADING]: Silver Price Today: XAGUSD Holds $65.40 as Traders Brace for US CPI

Vantage Updated Updated Wed, 2026 August 12 07:34

What’s the price of silver today? As of 10:46 (GMT+8) on 12 August 2026, the silver spot price on the Vantage XAGUSD CFD sits at $65.40, up a modest 0.07% and holding just above a key moving-average shelf ahead of today’s July US CPI report1. That’s the silver price today snapshot, but silver prices today only tell half of it after two sessions of whiplash that echo Friday’s rally.

What is Silver Trading at Today? Reading the XAGUSD Chart

The XAGUSD price on the 15-minute Vantage chart opened near $65.353, ranged between $65.336 and $65.423, and last printed $65.4042, flat on the surface, but not on the way here. The silver price now sits almost exactly on the confluence of the 50-period moving average at $64.854 and the 200-period moving average at $64.746, a shelf the metal broke below and then quietly climbed back on top of within a day.

Rewind to 10 August and XAG/USD ran from around $64.00 to a swing high near $66.47 in the early hours of 11 August, part of a broader move that added more than 10% over the week on a soft US jobs report3. Sellers hit back hard from there, dragging the session low to around $64.23 in early Asian hours on 11 August, before buyers rebuilt the position through the rest of that session and into this morning4.

The RSI (14) on the TradingView setup used for this analysis is worth a glance. It reads 69.05 against a 58.29 signal line, a sharp reversal from the oversold reading near 21 hit during Tuesday’s slide. Overbought territory is one strong candle away. That is not a signal to chase, just a chart that swung from panic to appetite inside a day.

Silver Price Forecast: XAG/USD Fundamentals into CPI

Silver Price Forecast: XAG/USD Fundamentals into CPI

This silver price XAGUSD forecast starts where every macro forecast does this week: the labour market. US non-farm payrolls fell 23,000 in July, badly missing the roughly 80,000 gain expected, and that miss is what trimmed September rate-hike bets and lit the fuse under last week’s rally5. Per the Trading Economics silver price series, the broader run added more than 10% in a week on the back of that surprise alone3.

That makes this both a price check and a silver price forecast XAG/USD for what comes next. The next test lands at 20:30 (GMT+8) / 08:30 (ET) today, when July CPI is due. Consensus sits at 3.4% year-on-year for the headline and 2.5% for core6. A cooler print would likely reinforce the case for the Fed to hold off on any hike, historically a friendly backdrop for precious metals. A hotter one would likely do the opposite and firm up the dollar7.

Energy remains the wildcard. Hopes for a deal to ease disruption around the Strait of Hormuz have faded this week, keeping a floor under Treasury yields and coinciding with silver’s pullback on Tuesday, 11 August, even as the gold-silver ratio widened to roughly 67.68. None of this points cleanly one way, which is exactly why the market is waiting on the data instead of guessing ahead of it.

XAG USD Price Forecast: Levels to Watch

The table below sets out the zones active traders are watching on the XAGUSD chart into the CPI release. These are reference levels drawn from the chart, not trade signals.

Silver’s wider 52-week range runs from roughly $36.96 to $121.67, a reminder that today’s move is small by 2026 standards9.

What to Watch Next

  • US CPI, 20:30 (GMT+8) / 08:30 (ET) today: The main catalyst. Consensus is 3.4% year-on-year headline, 2.5% core.
  • US PPI, Thursday: Rounds out the inflation picture before the next Fed meeting.
  • Silver Price Forecast XAG USD: A session close back below $64.75 would mark a shift from the present positioning above it.
  • Dollar and yield moves: Watch for further firming tied to Middle East headlines and energy prices.

On risk management: silver has covered a roughly $2.24 range across the past two sessions and has reacted sharply within minutes of prior data surprises. Standard intraday range assumptions may be less reliable heading into the CPI print, and Stop Loss placement around the levels above is one way some traders frame their exposure ahead of the release.

XAGUSD CFDs are traded on leverage, which can magnify both gains and losses and is worth treating as double-edged rather than a shortcut. Position sizing relative to account equity is worth revisiting ahead of a scheduled, high-impact release like today’s CPI, particularly for anyone holding correlated exposure across gold (XAUUSD) or other US dollar-linked instruments.

RISK WARNING: CFDs are complex financial instruments and carry a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should ensure you fully understand the risks involved and carefully consider whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money before trading.
